Ethridges work brings a contemporary sensibility informed by fashion and advertising to traditional genres of photography such as landscape, portraiture, and still-life. Ethridges practice reflects a variety of approaches to photography, exploiting the possibilities of the genre both formally and conceptually. In many of his photographs, the artist uses flat, close-up shots of ordinary objectsa young pine tree, a models made-up face, a gaudy pink ribbonto present them as deadpan icons.
