Description:
- The Royer R-10 is a passive mono ribbon microphone designed for both studio recording and live sound applications. Hand-built in Royers Burbank, California factory, the R-10 delivers unmistakable Royer sound and performance, with the ability to handle sound pressure levels of up to 160 dB SPL at 1 kHz. Its compact form factor and flexible mounting system allow for easy, unobtrusive positioning in virtually any environment.
- At its core is a 2.5-micron aluminum ribbon element, formed using Royers patented direct-corrugation process. The ribbon is protected by a three-layer windscreen system and an internally shock-mounted ribbon transducer, which isolates the element from vibrations and improves durability. The ribbon transducer is wired in a humbucking configuration to reject noise caused by electromagnetic interference.
- The built-in windscreen provides excellent protection from air blasts and plosives while also reducing proximity effect, allowing guitar cabinets and acoustic instruments to be close-miked with less low-frequency buildup. The internally shock-mounted ribbon further protects the element from shocks and handling noise, increasing long-term reliability.
- The R-10 utilizes a custom-designed David Royer transformer, delivering a high overload threshold and minimizing saturation even at extreme sound pressure levelsensuring clean, distortion-free performance. An open-grille design minimizes standing waves and comb-filtering effects, while the microphones smooth frequency response, excellent phase linearity, and lack of self-distortion make it ideal for modern digital recording and live sound systems.
- The Royer R-DB20 dBooster is a phantom-powered in-line signal booster and impedance buffer designed for ribbon and dynamic microphones. It increases the output level of low-output passive microphones with minimal distortion or coloration. Built for professional studio and live applications, the dBooster offers two selectable gain settings12 dB and 20 dBvia a front-panel switch.
- The dBooster maintains consistent headroom and gain regardless of load, while its Class A input stage delivers exceptionally clean amplification with virtually no noise or self-distortion. Its low-impedance output ensures pristine signal integrity, making it ideal for driving long cable runs, mic splitters, and vintage-style preamps without loss of gain, added distortion, or reduced headroomboth in the studio and on stage.
