Description:
- Designed for outstanding performance in both studio recording and live sound applications, the Royer Labs R-12 Active Ribbon Microphone Matched Pair features a figure-8 polar pattern and active electronics that deliver high output with exceptionally low noise. Ideal for acoustic and amplified string instruments, piano, brass, drums, and more, the R-12 captures a warm, natural sound rich in detail and nuance.
- The R-12 incorporates the same highly regarded 2.5-micron ribbon element found in Royers legendary R-121 microphone, ensuring exceptional SPL handling of up to 160 dB when the onboard -15 dB pad is engaged. This provides ample headroom for even the loudest sound sources, including drums and high-powered guitar amplifiers. A switchable 100 Hz high-pass filter helps control low-frequency buildup caused by proximity effect, making the R-12 well suited for close-miking applications.
- Each microphone features an internally shock-mounted ribbon transducer to reduce handling noise and protect the ribbon element, while a triple-layer metal mesh windscreen minimizes plosives and wind noise. Included accessories consist of a mic stand adapter, protective mic sock, and a durable carrying case.
Factory-Matched Stereo Pair
- This factory-matched pair is ideal for stereo recording in both studio and live environments. Perfect for capturing drum kits, pianos, ensembles, choirs, and ambient room sound, the figure-8 polar pattern produces a wide, accurate stereo image while preserving fine sonic details often missed by tighter cardioid microphones.
Active Circuitry for High Output and Low Noise
- The R-12s active circuitry significantly boosts output level, making it an excellent choice for quieter sound sources such as acoustic instruments and vocals. The electronics provide a consistent, optimal load to the ribbon element, allowing the microphone to achieve its full sonic potential. Combined with the switchable high-pass filter, the R-12 excels at close-miking loud instruments, speaker cabinets, and powerful vocal performances.
Isolated Ribbon Transducer
- An internally shock-mounted ribbon transducer further enhances durability and reduces unwanted mechanical noise. Together with the built-in triple-layer windscreen, the ribbon element is well protected against plosives and air movement, ensuring clean, reliable performance in demanding recording situations.
