Discover The Gilded Theatre Score by Kenneth Hesketh
Are you looking for a new challenge for your Wind Band ensemble? Look no further than The Gilded Theatre Score by Kenneth Hesketh. Commissioned by the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain, this piece is a must-have for any serious Wind Band enthusiast. With its dramatic and comedic moods, The Gilded Theatre Score is sure to delight audiences and players alike.
A Continuation of Dramatic Forms
In many ways, The Gilded Theatre Score can be seen as a continuation of dramatic forms presented in Hesketh’s previous piece, Diaghilev Dances. However, unlike the Dances, the music in The Gilded Theatre is conceived as one continuous span, with stretches of music subtitled and referencing stock characters or scenarios redolent of the commedia dell’arte or 17th Century French Theatre.
Challenging and Rewarding
Throughout the piece, players are challenged both technically and emotionally, making this a rewarding experience for intermediate to advanced Wind Band players. The moods conjured in the work are by turn dramatic, comedic, romantic, and aggressive, all supporting the idea of the abstract play to which the above subtitles refer.
